Description: Corporate film Corporate film about the extraction, processing, and use of basalt by the Nederlandsche Basalt Maatschappij. The film follows the typical pattern of a corporate film, with images of the workplace and the production process. We see for example shots of the basalt being extracted from the so-called pillar grooves of the Deutsche Hartstein Industrie AG in Breitenborn, and then being processed in the crusher of Steinau and Wachtersbach. The shipping takes place via Frankfurt am Main. In the Netherlands, the basalt is then unloaded and processed in Zaandam. In the first half of the 20th century, basalt was in an important raw material. Its hardness and high specific gravity make it ideal for dock and seawall construction. It is also used as a raw material for asphalt.
